Christmas Charity Chain

huntingtongala dinner Remember your Facebook friends asking you to join in a secret gift exchange? You know, the idea for you to send a $10 gift and you would receive 36 $10 gifts on your front door? Turns out if you didn't do the gift exchange with trusted friends it was considered a scam and illegal. uh oh.

The gift exchange idea got my gears going, though. If we can afford $10 to bless a stranger how much more willing should we be to spend $10 for someone in need? Much more! Let's be honest, we don't really need 36 gifts on our doorstep of fuzzy socks or another mug but there are others in our community who have real needs this Christmas.

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth. 1 John 3:17-18

This is where my Christmas Charity Chain idea came to mind.

Instead of gifting more stuff to friends or looking for something in return, why not donate to a charity organization that benefits others in need this Christmas season? Even better, why not share the ultimate gift of Jesus' love for them along with the items?

When trying to think of what charities would be good to partner with The Haven Project immediately came to mind. This is exactly what they have on their heart:

haven project for HHH

"The Haven Project was born out of the sheer desire to share the good news of Christ's salvation.  We have all been blessed with the Gift beyond value - the Gift of Jesus.  Yet while we all share that spiritual treasure, the disparity in material possessions will remain this side of Heaven.  We can do something about that.  We exist to help those who have far less than most, who are in a difficult season of their lives.....who could use not only the gift of hearing about Christ, but the gift of meeting some of their basic material needs and wants."

Want to help out? So do I!

The Christmas Charity Chain will run throughout the month of December!

Join our Facebook event page here and invite your friends!

You are invited!

This is how the Christmas Charity Chain will work:

1. Create a #ChristmasCharityChain giving team! Invite friends to join this event and create a committed team of three (you included).

2. Look at The Haven Project's Christmas wish list here and send a gift to their public address. A lot of online retailers have free shipping during this time. For safety, no personal names or addresses will be used.

3. Remind your team members to share and create their own team and continue the gift of charity! The gift that truly keeps giving! It is our prayer that no one should drop out because it's so much fun to gift others even without receiving anything in return.

4. Post your #ChristmasCharityChain team's name, what you gave, or share a picture on our event page to enter our weekly giveaway from sponsors that bless those who partake in the event!

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35
