Confession & Fasting // A Lenten Bible Study

F R E S H S T A R T Sin. It makes us squirm. We like to cover our sins up and hide them. We don't like talking about sin. At least, not about our own anyway.

As vulnerable as it feels to confess our sins to God it brings healing to our brokenness.

The next two weeks our bible studies will take a closer look at our sin and need for Jesus. We will spend time confessing our sins reading Isaiah 59. You will notice Isaiah 59 gets more personal when we switch the words you with me. Join me in praying it below.

Dear Lord, Surely your arm is not too short to save,     or your ear too dull to hear. But my iniquities have separated     me from You. my sins have hidden Your face from me,      so that You will not hear. For my hands are stained with blood,     my fingers with guilt. My lips have spoken falsely,     and my tongue mutters wicked things. No one calls for justice;     no one pleads a case with integrity. We rely on empty arguments, we utter lies;     we conceive trouble and give birth to evil.   We hatch the eggs of vipers     and spin a spider’s web. Whoever eats their eggs will die,     and when one is broken, an adder is hatched. 6  Our cobwebs are useless for clothing;     we cannot cover themselves with what we make. Our deeds are evil deeds,     and acts of violence are in our hands. 7   Our feet rush into sin;     we are swift to shed innocent blood. We pursue evil schemes;     acts of violence mark our ways. The way of peace we do not know;     there is no justice in our paths. We have turned them into crooked roads;     no one who walks along them will know peace.

In Jesus name, forgive us and hear our prayer, Lord. Amen.
